Lost and abandoned in the maze of magazine racks at Borders Bookstore, I murdered twenty minutes by thumbing through the latest issue of Haute Doll, which is more or less a sort of National Enquirer for the world of The Brothers Quay.
Personally, my only interest in dolls is whether or not the heads explode if you insert a fire cracker inside their little plastic skulls. Unfortunately, however, the magazine didn't carry any articles about this entertaining activity. Instead, there were just pages and pages devoted to the usual lurid tabloid subjects: how Barbie is dumping Ken for the last time; how Cindy gained three ounces and then lost it again; and about how filming Rehearsals For Extinct Anatomies was a very difficult but ultimately rewarding experience for Soozie.
I don't know about you, but I certainly won't be ordering a subscription.
