I have never understood ballet, except for the thin girls in Swan Lake outfits standing on their toes and smiling at me part of it.
However, those of you who can make the leap, as it were, might be interested in the choreography of Sir Frederick Ashton, soon to be celebrated at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Of interest to bookish types, the program includes music by Lord Berners (aka Merlin in "Love in A Cold Climate") and Meyerbeer via Constant Lambert (part model for Hugh Moreland in "A Dance to the Music of Time").
