Nobel prize? I won a prize for deportment once. They awarded me a fish dinner cooked by a Swedish dancing master with a limp. His name was Sven but it might have been Harry also.

They told me he caught the pox off some tart from the Guardian and fled down Nigeria way ... You remember, Harold, don't you, there's a good boy, you remember. It was when I lived out near Hackney Marshes under the viaduct.

Or was it Hendon Central?
Harold? ... Harold?

Noble bloody prize. Stick it on the sideboard next to the ashes by that picture of his ex-wife he keeps at a deceptive angle. Lady Antonia? I knew her when she was licking envelopes at the Playwrights Arms for two shillings a go. There was an undertaker involved as well. Used to drive them both to the Royal Court is long black car. Him and that other one too.

Harold? Harold? Your prize is here. Come here and collect your lovely prize.

Did you atch the fron page picture of Harold in today's NYT? Framebale! It's a head shot, cocked to the left. He's got some Greek fishing cap on (sign of his proleteriateness) and a bandage on his temple, and....the beginners of a shiner.
Hpe he wears this outfit to Sweden.

I am actually a Harold fan. I think his plays are superb when performed correctly. "The Caretaker" , "The Homecoming", "The Birthday Party", "No Man's Land" - these are worth a Noble, I think.

I thought Harold Pinter was long gone, dead as the doornail that might be emblematic of his emphatic non-play plays. I liked him too, as a historical existential blip on the screen of consciousness. Maybe he will purse his lips and reject this nobel effort to confirm his existence.

I know what Mortimer means. One of my most common reactions on reading obituaries is, "He was still alive? Pity he's dead, then. I guess."

I too rate him as a playwright and as a good actor. He has really only been a pain as a cultural icon. I missed listening to his Voices. Did anyone else hear it?
