Ever read Richler's "Joshua Then & Now"? You're in the same League of Interpretation in regards to King Arthur as Joshua's father is in regards to the Old Testament.

Both interpretations leave me howling.

Nope. Never read it. But I think I might if you recommend

tsk, tsk, this really won't do. here we are half way through september and as yet no entry for the month? I hope for your sake you are injured and pecking out distress signals with your remaining fingers,..otherwise I think I might start seeing other bloggers.
