I am often astonished and amused by how little confidence Christians often seem to have in their own ancient creed. Although the religion has persisted for over two thousands years, some disciples are still concerned that exposure to a typical fantasy film called the Golden Compass might direct impressionable kids away from the fold. Heaven forbid that God-fearin' kids should be entertained with other ideas, eh? I thought their famous mountain-moving faith was supposed to be stronger than that. Apparently not. At least not when there happens to be a cinema on top of the mountain anyway. Once again it seems that the "Light of the World" simply isn't as bright as a movie projector bulb.

There's more to it than that. This movie actively tries to dispel young children's beliefs in what their parents have been teaching them. From an adult perspective, it's not a big deal for me to watch a movie like that and determine that the movie is a load of crap. I am mature enough to see their intent and can decide whether to buy into that nonsense or not.
However, the movie is using devious methods to sneak up on kids and have them believe that a couple of children kill God, and can then do whatever they want. If that's not brainwashing, I don't know what is. And to sell it in the guise of a child entertainment movie? That's disgusting.
The author of the book that the movie is based on has publicly admitted that he wants to teach children that God does not exist, and that his books and this movie are the vehicles he is using to bypass the values that parents try to instill in their kids.
How low can you go?

Oh - by the way, I have no kids and still find this movie's intent and methods disturbing. This is worse than telling a five-year old that there's no such thing as Santa.

I concede your points. However, I think kids ought to be able to make up their own minds. If they choose to believe a movie with talking animals rather than their own parents ... well, something is amiss elsewhere.

If you really want to show kids a movie that causes them to abandon belief in God rent My Dinner With Andre.
